An introduction to Kitchen Garden Design

This course takes the French Potager garden as it's starting point. Potager gardens are more than a practical garden for growing vegetables and herbs. They are beautiful as well as productive and careful attention is given to the aesthetics of the garden along with the usefulness of the plants.
Vegetables and fruits, herbs, medicinal plants and those used traditionally for dyes and fabrics are planted in and amongst flowers, bushes and trees, incorporating elements such as symmetry and pattern.
Over the course of a weekend, we will look not only at the history of these gardens but closer at the types of plants grown and the systems used to manage them based on organic and sustainable principles. This includes soil care, plant communities and how to design your own potager garden and seasonal planting plan.
You'll need to bring:
Roll of 'madpakke' paper.
Something to write/draw with - could be pen/pencil/crayon etc.
Scissors and masking tape.
Printed photos of your garden/growing space.
Suitable for all.
